Boxing Day Mulled Wine Meet in Workhouse Wood

Bring the family along at 2pm to keep up the Christmas spirit and walk off a few surplus calories. It'll be a chance to find out what we plan to do with the Tesco Bags of Help £12,000 grant, together with the other £3,000 we've managed to get in the last few weeks.

The 2016 AGM

A BIT OF A RE-BRAND!

The AGM was well attended. I proposed changing our name to "Friends of Plumstead Common" in order to present to the world in a more friendly way. I think it is important, as we seek to persuade people to join us, to sound a little less worthy. The motion was passed unanimously and the change of name has been welcomed by officers and councillors alike. The PCEG was founded long before there were any parks "friends" groups and the change brings us in line with all the other groups who sit alongside us in the forum.
It will take me a while to sort out a new URL for our web site so, meanwhile, our old PCEG URL will have to suffice.

The annual report can be read at:

Marcia Whittard - a Fitting Farewell

It was very sad to say a last goodbye to Marcia, a founding member of PCEG and a steadfast supporter of all that we do. A few of us went along to a very moving service and took along a small floral tribute.

This is what we're up against!

The Plumstead Common Nature Reserve was the PCEG's first project. It has won successive Green Flag Awards and there are two "Forest Schools" areas for the use of local children. On the very day of Marcia's funeral all this building rubble was pulled out of the reserve. The sign on the outside fence had been destroyed and the Forest Schools arena was full of litter - in spite of our recently installed sign asking people to share in the care of the site.

That is why we so badly need some new blood in the Friends of Plumstead Common. We live in one of the most beautiful parts of London with so much, and such varied green space  . . . but we also live in one of the most environmentally abused parts of Greenwich.

The people who love Plumstead - and that is SO many of us now - need to use the Fix-My-Street app, we need to continually lobby our councillors to get tough on litter, fly tipping and dog's mess pace. We need to take possession of our streets and deal with the litter outside our houses. The problem will not go away unless we all tackle it together

And . . . the shiny new Friends of Plumstead Common needs a Vice Chair! Don't be shy . . . the newer you are to the group, the more useful you might be. Fresh eyes for a fresh brand?

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
